A Core Needle Biopsy uses a larger gauge needle to extract a small cylinder of whole tissue rather than just cells. This provides:
- Clearer architectural detail—the tissue’s structure can be neatly examined
- More conclusive results, especially when previous testing was inconclusive
It is often recommended when a fine-needle aspiration (FNA) biopsy doesn’t provide sufficient information—or when a deeper tissue sample is needed to guide treatment.
